A 23-year-old Dutch skier has died in an accident on the Stubaier Glacier in Austria. The skier fell on an outcropping rock, leading to his immediate death according to the police.

According to Austrian media, the victim was skiing off-piste near Neustift im Stubaital with some acquaintances around midday when he stumbled over a rock and landed fatally on it.

Despite first aid efforts and the arrival of a rescue helicopter, the skier could not be saved. The body was airlifted to the valley for further investigation into the exact cause of death, which is presumed to be a tragic accident.
