sydney - Two swimmers who got into trouble on the Australian coast received help from an unexpected corner. A new drone dropped an inflatable rescue device. The seventeen and fifteen-year-old boys could then still go to safety.

The duo, according to Australian media, ran into problems at the coastal town of Lennox Head in New South Wales. They were fortunate that lifeguards had taken the rescue drone there on the same day, reported broadcaster ABC. After a report was received about swimmers in need, the aid workers went with an unmanned aircraft to search for the teenagers.

Thanks to the drone, the boys could be tracked down within a few minutes. They were about 700 meters from the coast at that time. The state's deputy prime minister, John Barilaro, responded with delight to the outcome of the rescue operation. He stated that never before has a drone been used in such a way to save swimmers.
