lebanon - A drone launched from Lebanon hit a building in the city of Caesarea, where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has a private villa, according to the Israeli army.

A spokesperson stated that the residence was the drone's target, but did not confirm if the house was hit. Netanyahu and his wife were not at home during the strike, and no injuries were reported. Two more unmanned flying objects were intercepted.

Furthermore, there was an air raid siren in the coastal metropolis Tel Aviv. Additionally, a drone was fired towards the Glilot district, where the headquarters of the Mossad, the Israeli foreign intelligence service, are located.

The army reported sirens sounding in various places in northern Israel, including the city of Tiberias on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee.

According to reports from Qatari media, Netanyahu's residence was the purported target of the attack.

The military has expressed concerns over the increasing use of drones in deadly attacks in Israel, particularly by pro-Iranian militias in the Middle East. A recent drone attack by Hezbollah resulted in the deaths of four Israeli soldiers and injuries to dozens more.

Since the October 7 massacre that began with Hamas drones destroying border security systems, around 1200 drones have been fired at Israel, with 221 landing on Israeli soil.

These drones, being small, agile, and flying low, pose challenges in detection and elimination compared to traditional rockets. Although less destructive, they contribute to a sense of insecurity in Israel.

The military has made the dismantling of Hezbollah's drone unit a top priority. Most of the Lebanese group's drones originate from Iran, as do those of Iraqi militias and the Houthis in Yemen.

Tehran also sells these dangerous weapons to Russia, which extensively deploys them against Ukraine.
