new orleans - A driver of a pick-up truck rammed into a group of people in New Orleans, resulting in ten fatalities and 30 injuries.

The pick-up truck crashed into the people at the intersection of Bourbon Street and Iberville. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver got out of the vehicle with a gun and opened fire. The police allegedly shot him down.

"I saw a pick-up truck hitting everyone on the left side of the Bourbon sidewalk," said eyewitness Kevin Garcia (22) shortly after the tragedy to CNN. "After the impact, a body came towards me," Garcia said, adding that he also heard gunshots.

The incident occurred around 03:15 local time. Many people were on the streets due to New Year's Eve. Bourbon Street is a historic street in the French Quarter of New Orleans and is a popular tourist destination with numerous bars and restaurants.
