washington - Donald Trump plans to nominate Peter Navarro as a trade adviser for the government, despite his recent conviction for contempt of Congress.

Donald Trump is set to reappoint Peter Navarro as a trade adviser for the government. Navarro had previously served in a similar role during Trump's first term in office. Earlier this year, Navarro spent four months in prison for refusing to appear before a congressional committee investigating the Capitol riot.

"During my first term, few people were as effective and steadfast as Peter in upholding my two sacred rules, Buy American, Hire American," Trump wrote on Truth Social. The incoming president claimed that Navarro had been treated "terribly" by the "Deep State, or whatever you want to call it." The term 'Deep State' is frequently used by Trump to describe the establishment.

In January, Navarro was found guilty of contempt of Congress. The congressional committee had sought to question him about a plan he allegedly devised with Trump and others to delay and ultimately block the certification of Joe Biden's 2020 election victory.
