Divers discover new species in Lake Constance

berlin - In Lake Constance, which borders Germany, Austria and Switzerland, have divers in inaccessible caves discovered a new species.

It is a blind grotvis. The animal is eight centimeters wide, salmon pink in color and stone blind. The discovery is a sensation for biologists because it is the first blindegrotvissoort in Europe. For a long time it was believed that this species occurs only in warm regions, such as Mexico.

The fish live in very narrow corridors in the bottom of Lake Constance. Only thirty divers have ventured into this system. So far there are therefore caught only five live blind cave fish. Researchers believe that the main population resides somewhere deep in the underground system.
