michigan, tennessee, united states, netherlands - A woman who was fired for refusing the Covid vaccine receives a huge compensation. She will never have to work again with this amount.

Lis Domski had been working as an IT specialist at an insurance company for 38 years. During the Covid crisis, the company gave employees an ultimatum: get vaccinated or get fired, which put Lis in a dilemma according to her conscience. She found it against her (strict) Catholic faith, which was apparently supported by a detailed letter from the church.

The American jury now believes that Lis's religious freedom has been violated. It was also taken into account that the woman primarily worked from her own home before the epidemic, so she couldn't infect or get infected by anyone. The employer, Blue Cross Michigan, claimed in court that they were unaware of the woman's religious objections but were confronted with an email exchange between her and her boss during the hearing. Blue Cross stated in response that they only wanted to protect employees from infection.

A few months earlier, an employee from the same company in Tennessee received a compensation of $700,000 in a similar case. According to the court, Tanja Benton should never have been fired. Currently, there are 170 lawsuits against the insurer for unjust dismissals during the pandemic.

In the Netherlands, an employer cannot force an employee to get vaccinated against Covid. Vaccination is voluntary, as stated on the government's website. "Every individual has the right to choose whether to take a Covid vaccine. This is according to the Dutch constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights." Employers could adjust schedules for refusers, offer a different workplace, allow more remote work, or recommend wearing masks.
