European Space Imaging has unveiled fresh satellite images following a colossal avalanche in Switzerland. The village of Blatten was completely wiped out, as depicted in the new aerial pictures.

Tragic Event Unfolds

Last Wednesday, a significant portion of the Birchgletsjer collapsed, burying the village of Blatten in the Lötschental region under a torrent of ice, mud, and debris. Blatten had been evacuated the previous week due to landslide risks, forcing around three hundred residents to flee. Additional evacuations were carried out on Thursday near Blatten.
