Defendant Auschwitz guard silent

World February 19, 2016 17:28

detmold - The former Auschwitz guard Reinhold Hanning did during the four days that his trial is going on not said a word. The 94-year-old suspect reacts only with silence on the statements of witnesses the prosecution called to the court in the German city of Detmold.

Hanning sits with head bowed in the dock and leave it at that. Even after Friday's 85-year-old Jewess Irene Weiss from the United States and the 85-year-old Jew William Glied Canada did their story about the death camp, the former SS Unterscharführer did not respond. Hanning's complicity in the deaths of 170 000 people have been charged.

The case will continue February 26, when more witnesses are heard. The sessions last longer than two hours considering the age and health condition of the accused.
