amsterdam - Igloo, McDonald's and other international companies in the food industry, Greenpeace pledged to involve no cod from a part of the Arctic which is no longer covered with ice. Also has some Nordic fisheries and fish processing plants with the environmental organization agreed to let the newly accessible fishing area alone.

The area in the northern part of the Barents Sea is twice as big as France. The absence of large vessels catching cod, is also beneficial for other marine life. The trawl nets destroy soil life and also take other fish with it, possibly undiscovered species.

Greenpeace is calling on the Norwegian government on legal protection of the natural as possible. There also live vulnerable species such as the polar bear and bowhead whale. Greenpeace will check whether the promises are fulfilled. Areas around the North Pole melting due to climate change.
