Severe flooding from the Niger River in western Nigeria has claimed the lives of at least 88 people, with fears of more casualties as many are still unaccounted for. The devastating floods, a result of heavy rains, have particularly impacted the city of Mokwa, located about 260 kilometers west of the capital Abuja.
Impact on Mokwa
Most of the victims were in parts of Mokwa where numerous buildings were submerged or collapsed following intense rainfall. Local reports indicate that residents were caught off guard in their sleep during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.
