copenhagen - Walking over the street with face covering such as a burqa and nikab are prohibited in Denmark from August. The Danish parliament voted in favor of a ban on Thursday.
The rule also applies to masks, helmets and counterfeiters that cover the face too much. Someone who is caught in the street gets a 135 euro fine for the first time. That rises to 1350 euros at the fourth time. There are exceptions for a scarf in cold weather and a mask with carnival.
Someone who ignores the ban does not have to take the cover off the street. After payment of the fine, the person is directed home. Denmark is not the first country in Europe with such a ban. For example, France, Belgium and Austria went for Copenhagen.
