helsinki - A provider in Finland reported a damaged internet cable, with the Finnish police suspecting a crime. The cable, connecting Finland and Sweden, experienced damage causing a major outage in Finland.

A provider in Finland, GlobalConnect, reported a damaged internet cable connecting Finland and Sweden. The Finnish police suspect a crime behind the incident. According to the Swedish broadcaster SVT, damage was found at two onshore locations, leading to a significant disruption in Finland's internet connectivity. While one location has been repaired, work is still ongoing at the other site. Both Finnish and Swedish authorities have been informed of the situation.

This incident follows two damaged communication cables in the Baltic Sea two weeks ago – one between Finland and Germany and another between Sweden and Lithuania. Authorities suspect sabotage in those cases and are monitoring a Chinese cargo ship that was in the vicinity when the cables were damaged. The previously damaged cables have already been repaired.
