Criminal court reverses Bemba verdict

World June 8, 2018 16:24

the hague - The International Criminal Court ICC in The Hague has reversed the war crimes judgment against the Congolese former vice president Jean-Pierre Bemba. In June 2016, it was sentenced to eighteen years in prison for crimes against humanity because, under his command, militia members had murdered and raped in the Central African Republic.

According to the judge, however, he can not be held responsible for this. The previous judges took too little account of the effort he made to stop the crimes when he became aware of it.

For the time being, Bemba will remain stuck in anticipation of a case for contempt of the court.
