jerusalem - The Israeli soldier who shot a wounded, though disarmed Palestinian terrorist, Wednesday lodged an appeal against his conviction. The judge gave sergeant Elor Azaria last week a prison sentence of one and a half years for manslaughter. That offense carries a maximum of twenty years.

Three lawyers Azaria defended by court-martial, letting know in a comment on the decision that they will not assist him in appeal. She stated that he was a 'great and not thought possible' condemnation has received and suggested therefore that he can not be put at risk.

The affair caused a lot of commotion in Israel. In a poll half of those surveyed said that any Palestinian who carries out an attack should be shot on the spot.
