rome - The restoration of the Trevi Fountain in Rome has caused controversy, with the installation of a temporary pool dividing opinions among locals and tourists. Find out more about the conflicting views on this issue.

The restoration of the Trevi Fountain is expected to be completed by the end of this year in preparation for next year's Jubilee, which will attract millions of tourists to Rome. Some see the installation of metal walkways as a practical solution to allow a close-up view of the intricate baroque sculptures, while others consider it a disrespectful alteration to the work of the fountain's original architect, Nicola Salvi.

The local government in Rome is also exploring ways to manage the large crowds of tourists that gather around the Trevi Fountain. Proposals such as limiting the number of visitors or implementing a symbolic entrance fee have sparked debate and protests. However, no final decision has been reached yet.

For tourists missing the tradition of tossing coins into the fountain during the restoration period, a temporary rectangular pool has been set up as an alternative attraction. While most visitors find this substitute disappointing compared to the actual fountain, many still participate by tossing coins into the pool, keeping the superstition alive.

Caritas, a Roman Catholic charity organization, benefits from the coins collected from the fountain. The annual proceeds of approximately 1.5 million euros are used to support the city's homeless and underprivileged population.
