Controversy as World Leaders Reach for Phones During Pope's Funeral

A moment of disrespect unfolded during Pope Franciscus's funeral procession as some high-ranking officials were caught grabbing their phones while his casket passed by.

Disrespectful Behavior at Funeral

As the Pope's body was carried to its final resting place at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, most world leaders and dignitaries paid their respects solemnly. However, some couldn't resist the urge to take photos.

According to reports, among those seen using their phones were Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutte and Ugandan parliament member Tomas Tayebwa, who even proudly shared his photos on social media.

Public Outcry and Criticism

The act was met with widespread criticism, with many labeling it as a lack of respect and questioning the behavior of today's politicians. The incident adds to previous controversies where visitors took photos of the Pope lying in state at St. Peter's Basilica.

Ironically, Pope Franciscus had expressed a wish to break tradition by not being laid out in an open casket after his death, a wish that was not granted.
