An Iraqi man, Salwan Momika, who was known for his provocative Quran burning actions, was shot dead in his apartment in Södertälje, Sweden. Momika, aged 38, was undergoing trial for hate crimes related to burning the Quran. The incident occurred while he was live streaming on Tiktok.

Ongoing Legal Process

Momika and another individual, Salwan Najem, were facing trial for burning the Quran in multiple incidents. The trials commenced on January 16, with accusations of inciting hatred towards an ethnic or national group. The Stockholm District Court was expected to deliver its verdict on January 31.

Provocations and Incidents

Momika and Najem had previously burned the Quran outside the Stockholm Mosque and in front of the Iraq Embassy and Swedish Parliament, with police protection. The provocations led to protests and arrests. Momika's actions, including burning the Quran and the Palestinian flag, sparked controversy and public outrage.
