washington - American national security adviser John Bolton met with the Turkish ambassador in the US on Monday about the American preacher Andrew Brunson. The White House said that this consultation took place at the request of Turkish ambassador Serdar Kilic.
The White House did not express itself on the outcome of the consultations. Turkey holds Brunson in custody. Ankara suspects him of terrorist activities, but according to the US there is no evidence for this.
The case does not make the relationship between Ankara and Washington good. Partly because of these mutual tensions Turkey is struggling with a hefty inflation and the price of the lira has fallen sharply.
