Death Toll Lowered in Congo Boat Tragedy
The death toll from the recent boat accident in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been revised significantly downwards.
The mayor, Yves Balo, stated, 'We counted 195 survivors, including 22 victims with burns, and 33 deaths, 29 of whom have already been buried.'
Mayor Balo attributed the large discrepancy to 'confusion' during the counting of the deceased after the tragedy. The wooden motorboat carrying hundreds of people caught fire and capsized.
