Aged 42, Drapatyi's military career spans over two decades, with notable achievements including the successful defense of Marioepol in 2014 against armed separatists.

Since the Russian invasion in February 2022, Drapatyi's leadership led to reclaiming territories like Cherson from Russian control through strategic counteroffensives.

Recognized for his successes, Drapatyi was appointed as the Ground Forces Commander by Ukrainian President Zelenski in November 2024.
