sweden - China has stated that it is 'willing to cooperate' in the investigation of the undersea cable break in the Baltic Sea, which damaged data cables between Sweden and Lithuania and between Helsinki and Rostock.

China has stated that it is 'willing to cooperate' in the investigation of the undersea cable break that occurred in the Baltic Sea. Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, mentioned on Friday that China and Sweden are in close contact regarding the issue.

Last week, a data cable between the Swedish island of Gotland and Lithuania was physically damaged, along with another cable between Helsinki and Rostock. The cause of the damage is still unclear.

The Swedish police have initiated an investigation into possible sabotage and the role of the Chinese cargo ship Yi Peng 3. Authorities in other countries are also looking into whether the cables were deliberately damaged. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson emphasized on Thursday that it is not an accusation, but rather a strong desire to understand what exactly happened.

The cargo ship has been anchored in the Kattegat, the strait between Sweden and Denmark, in international waters for ten days. The Chinese shipping company is cooperating with the investigation. Several military ships from NATO countries are currently stationed around the vessel. Stockholm is urging the Yi Peng 3 to sail into Swedish territorial waters so that Swedish authorities can continue the investigation.
