awamarino - The New Zealand police have been intrigued by a complex missing persons case for almost three years. In December 2021, Tom Phillips fled with his three children, sparking immediate concern from the mother. After being missing for a long time, the kids have now been spotted in a wooded area.

During the Christmas holidays in 2021, Phillips had a huge argument with the mother of his children. He decided to flee into the wilderness of Waikato, a region in northern New Zealand, taking Ember (8), Maverick (9), and Jayda (11) with him, marking the last time the mother saw her children.

Since then, Phillips himself has been spotted hundreds of times, but the children always remained out of sight. That changed earlier this month when a video surfaced showing the quartet walking in camouflage clothing through a wooded area in the New Zealand rural community of Awamarino.

The video was captured on October 3 by a 16-year-old hunter and shared with the police. Upon analysis, it became clear that it was indeed the missing quartet. Inspector Andrew Saunders stated, "This is the first time since their disappearance that all three children have been spotted, so that's good news."

A search in the region yielded no results this week, leaving the mother, known only as Cat, desperate. She expressed her grief, saying, "Every day, I am in mourning. Their childhood and innocence are being lost. They deserve better." Despite believing that Phillips "cares nothing for the children" and views them as mere pawns, Cat finally sees a glimmer of hope after a prolonged period of uncertainty, stating, "I am relieved that my three treasures are all still alive." She is very grateful to the 16-year-old who spotted her children, admiring his bravery for capturing the moment.

In September 2021, Phillips had previously fled, also taking the children. A search ensued, and after just over two weeks, they returned home. Phillips claimed they had gone on a camping trip and decided last minute to extend their stay. This led to a police accusation of wasting valuable time and resources.

In January 2022, Phillips was due in court but had already fled for a second time. In September 2023, he allegedly attempted a bank robbery, followed by stealing a red quad and smashing a shop window two months later. In June of this year, a reward of around 70,000 euros was offered for information on the children's possible whereabouts, expiring before Ember, Maverick, and Jayda were spotted in the video.
