paris - Multiple people have died on an overcrowded migrant boat traveling from France to England, with one young child fatally kicked, according to French authorities.

Multiple people have died on an overcrowded migrant boat traveling from France to England. French authorities report that one young child was fatally kicked. On Saturday morning, an alarm was raised from the boat. A French ship responded, finding fourteen individuals on board, including the deceased. One injured person was taken to the hospital. The deceased child was around 4 years old, as stated by the mayor of the coastal town of Le Portel. French authorities mentioned that it was not a shipwreck, but the child was found on the boat.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau described the incident as a "horrible tragedy." He stated, "Smugglers have the blood of these people on their hands, and our government will intensify the fight against these criminal networks that profit from organizing these deadly crossings."

The migrants on the boat have resumed their journey to England. French authorities are taking measures to prevent migrants from undertaking perilous Channel crossings but do not intervene once the boats are already at sea. They explain that they only engage in rescue operations for safety reasons.
