tel aviv - The Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich has received Israeli nationality. The 51-year-old businessman, owner of, among others, the London football club Chelsea, is officially immigrated on Monday, according to Israeli television.

Abramovich in Britain would have problems with extending his residence permit. As a child of Jewish parents, he had the right to apply for an Israeli passport.

Abramovich may also call himself the richest man in the country. The American magazine Forbes estimates his capital, invested in shares, real estate, art, luxury yachts and a hotel in Tel Aviv where he wants to live, at 9.8 billion euros. With this he occupies 140th place in the world ranking.

There is currently a trial in Abramovich in Switzerland, where his oil company Runicom was registered. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has indicted him to force him to repay a granted credit of 12.5 million euros with interest. His lawyers deny that debt.
