munich - Munich Airport faced unprecedented chaos last Thursday with a two-kilometer queue at the security checkpoint due to extended weekend and Oktoberfest rush.

Germany is currently experiencing an extended weekend due to a national holiday. Additionally, the Oktoberfest has led to increased travel, resulting in significant crowds at the Munich Airport. Thursday witnessed an extraordinary influx of travelers, leading to excessively long queues.

Airport director Jost Lammers issued apologies on Friday evening for the inconvenience caused. Speaking to the local broadcaster BR, he stated that the situation was 'not usual nor desirable'. Lammers promptly announced measures to improve passenger distribution and open additional check-in counters.

The turmoil at the German airport coincides with staff shortages and reduced capacity due to the upgrade of gates and other equipment. Consequently, travelers are advised to arrive earlier, affecting the overall distribution throughout the day. Lufthansa, the largest carrier at the airport, witnessed hundreds of passengers rebooking their flights due to the immense congestion and sixty flights experiencing delays.
