Case against Facebook for facial recognition

Case against Facebook for facial recognition

World April 17, 2018 05:45

san francisco - A judge in the United States has determined that a collective lawsuit is the best way to settle a dispute between Facebook and many users of the social medium about the use of facial recognition software. According to the users who filed the case on April 6, the software is used unlawfully without permission.

The software is used in the so-called tagging of people in photos. Facebook can make suggestions through the software for people who are in the picture. This has been banned in Europe since 2012 and, according to the Americans who filed the case, Facebook also violates the rules in the US.

Facebook is currently in the midst of a scandal because the Cambridge Analytica company has obtained data from 87 million users via the social medium. These data were used, among other things, for political messages concerning the US presidential elections in 2016. The CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg was heard two days ago by the House of Representatives on the case.
