Carrie Lam new leader from Hong Kong

hong kong - The former government official from Hong Kong Carrie Lam Sunday elected new leader of the city.

Lamb was elected by an electoral college of 1,200 members, who are mainly loyal to Beijing. Most of the 7.3 million inhabitants of the former British colony have no say in the choice of the new leader. Hong Kong belongs to China since 1997.

Lamb, which Hong Kong's first female leader of Hong Kong is, got 777 votes against 365 for its nearest rival, former Financial Secretary John Tsang. Tsang was in the polls, the big favorite. A third candidate, Woo Kwok-hing, received 21 votes. Lamb begins on July 1 in her new position.
