canada - Rumors are circulating that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will resign before the group meeting on January 8 due to low public support.

Rumors suggest that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will resign from the leadership of the ruling Liberal Party due to increasing dissatisfaction within the party and low public support ahead of the meeting on January 8. Trudeau is reportedly aiming to announce his resignation at a time of his own choosing to avoid appearing ousted.

Following his resignation, potential successors include Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, Innovation, Science and Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne, and former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney. Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc is mentioned as a temporary leader.

Previously, 24 out of 153 Liberal Party MPs had called for Trudeau's resignation by October 28, 2024, citing concerns of defeat in future elections.

Despite the resignation calls, Trudeau has stated that he will continue to compete in the next election.
