Canada wants to expand Dutchman after 59 years

vancouver - A 59-year-old Dutchman is liable to be deported from Canada. He has been living there since he was eight months old, but has never been a Canadian citizen. And because he has a criminal record including possession of weapons, threats and abuse, Canadians want to turn it off Monday next week.

The man has filed a lawsuit in order to stay still, the Canadian channel CTV reported Tuesday. Every non-Canadian who has been given a prison sentence of at least six months will be automatically deported from Canada. There is without appeal. This rule was introduced in 2013 by the previous right-wing government of Canada, more than half a century after the emigration of Van Heest. He was once sentenced to nine months in prison.

The Dutchman says he suffers from bipolar disorder, he got under control. He also wants Canada provide for his 81-year-old mother. Moreover, he knows no one in the Netherlands and he does not speak Dutch. He therefore asks the court in Vancouver to make an exception.

A lawyer says there's another option: he can apply for a new residence permit for Canada after returning to the Netherlands. But given his criminal record is unlikely that he gets it.
