Bundeswehr Raises Alarm Over Shortage of Personnel and Equipment

The Federal Government's concerns regarding Bundeswehr's capabilities were highlighted by Eva Högl (SPD) during the presentation of her annual report in Berlin.

Challenges Faced:

  • Support for Ukraine amidst Russian invasion.
  • Increased sightings of foreign drones, possibly from Russia, above secret training locations in Germany.
  • Concerns over the fluctuating stance of the United States.

Proposed Solutions:

  • Discussion on reintroducing conscription due to a stagnant number of soldiers.
  • Initiatives to recruit more personnel through voluntary enlistment.
  • Call for additional funding of 67 billion euros to address equipment shortages and increased demands.

Current Challenges:

  • Insufficient resources to counter hostile drones, especially at crucial military bases.
  • Reports of drones surveilling strategic locations like the Ems gas storage facility.
