British government publishes Brexit plans

World July 12, 2018 13:39

london - The British government has published the blueprint for the intended future relationship with the European Union. The 98-page document shows that London wants to maintain close ties with the EU in some areas, including by continuing to cooperate with various EU agencies.

The British government wants to remain involved with the European Aviation Safety Agency, the European Medicines Agency and the European Chemicals Agency. This means that the British accept and pay for the rules of those agencies, even after the departure of their country from the European Union.

The plans provide for a free trade zone for goods, but the current free movement of people must come to an end. The government does want to ensure that the immigration policy fits well with the needs of the business community.

The Brexit plans of Prime Minister Theresa May are not undisputed. Two prominent ministers have stepped out of protest. The EU still has to approve the proposals.
