london - The UK government announced a ban on daytime TV adverts for fast food and sugary products as part of efforts to combat obesity. The ban will come into effect in October next year, with exemptions for advertising after 9 pm. Online advertising will face a complete ban.

The list of products covered by the advertising ban was revealed today. Healthier options such as sugar-free cereals and natural yogurt will still be allowed to be advertised.

NHS data shows that nearly 10 percent of four-year-olds in the country are obese, and 20 percent of children develop cavities by age five due to excessive sugar consumption.

The government hopes that the measure will prevent 20,000 cases of childhood obesity annually.
