Perumbalath, who has been the bishop of Liverpool since 2023 and previously served as the bishop of Bradwell for five years, faced accusations from a woman who claimed she was sexually abused by him on multiple occasions between 2019 and 2023. It was also alleged that he assaulted another bishop.

The bishop mentioned that he has cooperated with an investigation conducted by The Church of England.
