Brighton Midfielder Matt O'Riley Joins Marseille on Loan

Brighton midfielder Matt O'Riley has finalized a season-long loan transfer to Marseille, as announced by the club. The 24-year-old player will be working with former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi in France and the prestigious Champions League.

Manager's Statement

Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler expressed his support for O'Riley's move, stating, 'Matt has the opportunity to challenge himself at the highest level in France and in the Champions League. While we see Matt's long-term future with us, this loan provides him with more playing time given the competition in our midfield positions.'

Transfer Details

O'Riley, who joined Brighton from Celtic in August 2024 for £25 million ($33.5m), has accumulated four caps for Denmark. During his time at Brighton, he appeared in 25 matches and netted three goals.

Other Brighton Transfers

Several players departed Brighton during the summer transfer window, including João Pedro, Simon Adingra, Julio Enciso, Pervis Estupiñán, Valentín Barco, Tariq Lamptey, and Abdallah Sima on permanent deals. Additionally, Evan Ferguson, Facundo Buonanotte, Igor Julio, and Jeremy Sarmiento left the club on loan.
