united states - A biotech startup claims successful trials with an experimental eye implant that restores central vision in blind patients.

A biotech startup named Science Corporation announces a breakthrough in the field of vision restoration for blind and visually impaired individuals. The company claims to have developed an eye implant, known as 'Prima,' which aims to restore central vision in patients. The 2mm square chip is surgically implanted under the patient's retina in a procedure that takes approximately 80 minutes.

The implant works in conjunction with a pair of glasses equipped with a camera. Infrared light captured by the camera is transmitted to the chip, which contains 378 light-sensitive pixels. The implant converts the light into electric signals that stimulate the eye, allowing it to send visual information to the brain. This innovative technology enables patients to regain some level of sight, including the ability to recognize faces, details, and letters.

Max Hodak, the CEO of Science Corp, expresses his excitement about the breakthrough, stating, 'To my knowledge, this is the first time the restoration of the ability to read fluently has been definitively demonstrated in blind patients. This marks a significant milestone in the field, and we are incredibly eager to bring this important technology to the market in the coming years.'
