são paulo - Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underwent surgery in a hospital in São Paulo following a brain hemorrhage. The 79-year-old president is expected to remain in the intensive care unit for two days.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has been operated on in a hospital in São Paulo after suffering a brain hemorrhage. The 79-year-old president is anticipated to spend two days in the intensive care unit of a private hospital. Doctors have reported that he is in a stable condition.

The hemorrhage is said to be a consequence of a fall the president had on October 19. Since then, he has been experiencing health issues and has missed several top conferences. Lula da Silva was initially taken to a hospital in the capital, Brasilia, on Monday but was later flown to São Paulo.

The Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in the center of São Paulo was established in 1965 by the large Lebanese and Syrian communities of the city. It is considered one of the top hospitals in Brazil.
