Body Found of Truck Driver in Japan Sinkhole Tragedy

The body of a 74-year-old truck driver, missing since January when his truck was swallowed by a 40-meter wide, 15-meter deep sinkhole in Yashio, Japan, has been found.

Tragic Incident

The sinkhole appeared suddenly on January 28, consuming the truck. While the truck's cargo was quickly retrieved, the cabin was dragged downstream and located two weeks later in a sewer pipe.

Recovery Efforts

Search for the driver was halted on February 9 due to safety concerns. After stabilizing the sewer and redirecting water flow, a vertical shaft was excavated to retrieve the cabin.

Identification and Emotional Impact

The body, likely the missing driver, was found on May 1 after a thorough search. Family members express disbelief and sorrow, hoping he fought fear and pain until the end.
