Bizarre orange snow covers Eastern Europe

sochi - We all know 'yellow' snow, but the population of a large part of Eastern Europe had not yet experienced this color of the atmospheric phenomenon: several places are covered with orange snow.

People from parts of Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Romania and Moldova share pictures of the orange snow on social media. In the Russian ski resort Sochi- where the Winter Games of 2014 were held- the population even draws the comparison with the apocolyps. This reports RT.

But what is really going on? According to experts, the orange phenomenon occurs once every five years. Metereologist Steven Keats says that it comes from a combination of stiff sand from the desert and wind. 'A lot of sand is coming from North Africa and the Sahara through sandstorms. As the sand is lifted to the higher levels of the atmosphere, it is distributed elsewhere, 'he told The Independent.

He continues: 'When it rains or snows, the atmosphere can pick it up and let go at every possible place, if there is only sand in the area. '

In January, residents of a city in Kazakhstan said that air pollution by the local iron and steel industry had covered the ground with black snow.
