Billions needed for humanitarian crisis Yemen

geneva - Seven million people in Yemen are threatened with famine. According to the United Nations, the situation in the stray country is currently the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. The UN Emergency Aid Office has called on governments and private donors to provide extra money one day before the start of a special donor conference. Of the 1.9 billion euros that is only needed this year, only 15 percent is currently in.

According to the agency, 1.2 million children are malnourished and at risk of life. Eight million people have no access to drinking water. Two thirds of the 27 million inhabitants in the country need help and protection.

In Yemen, the Iranian-supported Houthi rebels oppose the expelled government of Yemen, which in turn is supported by a coalition led by Saudi Arabia. The civilian population is enclosed between the two opposing parties.
