washington - US President Joe Biden will remove Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism in exchange for the release of a significant number of political prisoners, the White House announces.

The American president Joe Biden has decided to remove Cuba from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism, in return for the release of a 'significant' number of political prisoners, as reported by the White House.

Cuba was placed on the terrorism list four years ago, due to allegations of providing refuge to terrorists. This decision was made just before the end of Donald Trump's presidency, who is set to take over the presidency from Biden in almost a week.

The sanctions that were imposed back then are now being relaxed. Restrictions on certain financial transactions with Cubans who have ties to the army or the government are being lifted.
