brussels - The Belgian Minister for Sustainable Development Marie-Christine Marghem wants to relax the climate ambition of her country. She is negotiating with Europe, so write Belgian newspapers on Tuesday.
Now Belgium has to get greenhouse gas emissions down by 35 percent by 2030, but according to the minister, it is too much. She will soon talk to Europe to relax this goal.
'The European Commission takes too little account of the fact that we are a transit country with a lot of foreign freight traffic and with many outdated buildings. Therefore, we will now negotiate with Europe with the intention of reducing 35 percent, 'says the minister.
Because the climate targets are set at European level, a lower target for our country means that other EU Member States need to make more efforts.
