Belgian Woman Missing for 14 Years Found in France

Aurélie L., now 37, resurfaced in Condrieu, France, where she ran a restaurant with her chef partner after being convicted in Belgium for embezzlement.

Background Story

In 2015, she was convicted in Belgium for embezzling nearly 7000 euros collected by neighbors for fake cancer treatment. Despite being missing, she surfaced in local media over the years for her art and restaurant.

Reappearance and Legal Issues

While living under an alias, a legal dispute in France revealed her true identity. Despite her past, she won't be extradited back to Belgium due to the expiration of her sentence.

Speaking to Le Progrès, Aurélie L. stated, "I had a difficult youth. I made a stupid mistake when I was young, but I want to leave that behind me now."
