dendermonde, belgium - An 87-year-old man in Belgium drove to the police station to pick up his confiscated driver's license, thinking it was close by.

Belgian Man Drives to Police Station to Retrieve Confiscated Driver's License

An 87-year-old Belgian man, identified as S., drove to the police station to retrieve his confiscated driver's license after it was taken away for a positive breathalyzer test. The police had confiscated his license for six hours after the test. The next day, he returned to the police station in Dendermonde to collect his document. However, upon arrival, it was discovered that he had parked his car incorrectly in front of the station. This led to him being reported for driving without a valid license.

As a result, S. had to appear before the police court. His lawyer acknowledged his client's mistake but argued that he believed driving to the station without a license was harmless due to its proximity. The presiding judge imposed a fine of 3200 euros, with 1400 euros being conditional. Additionally, S. received a three-month driving ban, half of which is conditional. The judge remarked that S. was fortunate to receive a lenient sentence.
