minsk - Belarusian President Lukashenko issued a warning that any attempt by Russia to annex Belarus would lead to war, stressing the strong bond between the two nations.

Belarusian President Lukashenko, often referred to as Europe's last dictator, responded to a question by Russian newspaper Izvestia about Russia potentially annexing his country. Lukashenko firmly stated that such an act would be unacceptable and could lead to war. The speculation of a potential merger between the two countries has been circulating for some time, but Lukashenko emphasized that the current close cooperation between Belarus and Russia is sufficient. He argued that joining the two nations would be unnecessary and outdated, highlighting the importance of considering the consequences of such actions in the modern world. Despite being viewed as a close ally of Russian President Putin, Lukashenko occasionally makes statements like these in an attempt to distance himself from that image.
