Baby Vinnie Born with Ear on Cheek: Rare Medical Condition

Baby Vinnie, born in Wales, has a rare medical condition where his right ear is attached to his cheek.

At four months old, Vinnie, son of Grace and Rhys James, has faced numerous challenges since birth. He underwent emergency surgery and spent 65 days in the hospital. In addition to his unique ear placement, Vinnie is missing his right eye and has an underdeveloped right jaw.

Doctors diagnosed Vinnie with Goldenhar Syndrome, a rare condition affecting about 1 in 25,000 newborns, causing abnormal development of the eye, ear, and neck and spinal bones. Typically, the syndrome affects only one side of the body, in Vinnie's case, the right side.

Vinnie has already received a tracheostomy tube to assist with breathing, an eye prosthesis, and is fed through a feeding tube. Future surgeries are planned to reposition his ear and replace the eye prosthesis due to his rapid growth.

Friends of the family have started a fundraising campaign to help cover the mounting medical expenses, raising over 17,000 pounds (approximately 20,000 euros) so far.

Vinnie's father, Rhys, sees his son as 'perfect' and hopes that Vinnie's journey will inspire others. 'He changes the lives of so many people, including ours, and brings people together. He already has something charming. I just want him to inspire,' says Vinnie's father.
