canberra - Australian Indigenous senator, Lidia Thorpe, who criticized King Charles in parliament on Monday, has no intention of resigning.

Australian Indigenous senator Lidia Thorpe, who recently criticized King Charles in parliament, stated that she has no plans to resign. Thorpe emphasized her pursuit for justice and announced her intention to stay in office for another three years, urging the public to get used to hearing the truth from her.

In her speech following King Charles's address in the parliament of Canberra, Thorpe challenged his authority by stating, 'This is not your country, you are not my king,' and demanded the return of lands taken from Indigenous people, accusing European colonists of genocide. Thorpe was escorted out during her impassioned remarks.

While some politicians, including opposition leader Peter Dutton, called for Thorpe’s resignation, no motion of no confidence has been officially raised against her yet, as reported by The Guardian.

Thorpe later apologized for an Instagram post featuring a cartoon depicting the beheading of King Charles, attributing the publication of the image to a staff member without her consent and condemning any form of violence.

Australia was under British colonial rule from the late 18th to the early 19th century, resulting in the mass killing of thousands of Aboriginals and displacement of entire communities.

Although Australia gained independence in 1901, it has remained a constitutional monarchy with King Charles as the current head of state, currently visiting the country with Queen Camilla.
