canberra - The Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against consuming Tiger whiskey or vodka in Laos due to serious health concerns and deaths of tourists.

Australians are warned by their Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be cautious when consuming strong alcohol in Laos, especially Tiger brand, which has been banned due to health concerns. The Laotian authorities suspect that the drinks may have been tainted with methanol, resulting in deaths and illnesses of tourists.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs also advises vigilance while consuming alcohol in Laos, following incidents of tourist deaths suspected to be linked to methanol contamination in drinks. Little information is available about Tiger brand, and the role it played in the tourist poisonings remains unknown.
