Train Crash Tragedy

In 2023, a passenger train carrying 352 individuals collided head-on with a freight train in the Tempi region, resulting in the deaths of 57 people, including university students.

Public Outcry and Minister Resignation

Following the tragic accident, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis resigned as public opinion indicated widespread distrust in the government's handling of the incident.

Violent Protests and Arrests

Protesters gathered outside the parliament demanding justice for the victims of the train crash, leading to clashes with security forces. 30 individuals were also arrested in the northern city of Thessaloniki.
