Assistant Manafort gave FBI access to evidence

World June 30, 2018 06:45

alexandria - A personal assistant from Paul Manafort granted the FBI access to a storage safe containing evidence that the former campaign manager of President Donald Trump was trying to conceal. That was what the witness told during a hearing of the federal court in the US state of Virginia.

The judge has not yet decided to allow the evidence, but hinted there on Friday. The lawyers of Manafort have requested not to admit this evidence and previous findings from home searches. This is to complicate the investigation by special prosecutor Robert Mueller into Russian interference in the US presidential election.

Mueller's research focuses on whether the Trump campaign team worked with Russia in 2016 to influence the US elections.

Manafort, who is currently in prison, has been charged with financial crimes that are not related to the campaign. Mueller hopes that Manafort will provide information about Russian interference. In return, he can look forward to a reduction in sentences.
